Breaking News: CC Sabathia is still fat by Jared Carrabis
Yankees GM Brian Cashman says Sabathia is a big fat liar, didn't lose 30 pounds as reported
Since about November, Yankees GM Brian Cashman has rapidly shot up my list of favorite people in the world.
The man rips on the Yankees almost as much as I do, and that’s saying a lot. Aside from dropping a few memorable quotes this offseason, from what I hear, he’s a really good guy.
With that being said, earlier in the week, ESPN's
Buster Olney tweeted that the Yankees’ CC Sabathia "lost about 30 pounds this winter and looks great." I was going to blog that, and say something like, "So, what’s that make him now, 470 pounds?" But I decided to wait for a picture of him at spring training to surface first.
Well, I don't have a picture, but I do have Cashman calling Sabathia a big fat liar.
"I don't believe it,''
Cashman told ESPN.com. "I saw him (last week) at the B.A.T. dinner and he didn't look like he lost 30 pounds to me. Maybe half that amount. We haven't weighed him so I don't now where that number comes from."
MLB.com
generously lists Sabathia at 290 pounds, but Cashman said, "He obviously has worked very hard to rehab his knee and he's lost some weight, but he's still around 300 pounds,"
To the average person, being 300 pounds is a health concern, but Cashman says, "Clearly, he's a tremendous athlete and he can handle it, but it has to be managed so it doesn't become a problem. I just think 30 pounds would have been a lot more noticeable."
Gotta hand it to Cash, though. When his rival is better,
he'll tell ya. When he doesn't even want guys that he was forced to sign anyway,
he'll tell ya, and when his players are fatter than they claim to be, he'll rip the rug out from underneath 'em. Ruthless. The man is an animal, and I love it.
