Called up to the big leagues by Jared Carrabis
SoxSpace's Jared Carrabis to host webcast on RedSox.com
(
RedSox.com) --
As an extension of the 2010 Listening Tour, the Red Sox have created an online opportunity to hear from those fans who cannot attend the Listening Tour event in each New England state. Red Sox Nation Governor of Massachusetts Jared Carrabis will sit down with a Red Sox personality periodically to field questions and take suggestions live from fans. During each webcast, Jared and his guest will reply to questions that fans have posted on this site beforehand, as well as respond to live comments and questions posted on Facebook and Twitter.
First thing's first; a big thank you goes out to
Rafe Anderson, without whom, none of this would be possible.
Rafe devised a plan to allow Red Sox fans to interact with front office members and players alike. The Red Sox are always looking for new ways to enhance the Red Sox fans' experience and bring them closer to the team that they love, and after collaborating ideas, they devised a plan to create a webcast with me as the host. Very, very crazy, and has yet to sink in.
Next, I'd like to thank all of you, the readers. Whether you've been on board since back in the MySpace days, or have found SoxSpace via Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else. If you've ever read anything that I've written, you've had an impact. So for that, I thank you greatly.
This past off-season, Rafe produced the TruFan Red Sox Webcast on
TruFan.com, which was hosted by
Mary Paoletti and myself. The experience of being on that show was great. I rid myself of any camera shyness, and hopefully gained experience that will help me in my latest endeavor with RedSox.com.
I'll be flying to Dallas, Texas Friday morning at 6am for the Red Sox versus Rangers series this weekend, then the Wednesday following my trip down south, the first show will air on RedSox.com.
The concept behind the webcast will be focused on social media. Every webcast, I will sit down with a different guest, whether it be a Red Sox player, front office member etc., and drill them with questions.
The show will be centered around the fans, as Red Sox Nation can post questions via Twitter and Facebook, either before the show, or during the show by using the #RedSox hashtag.
Any tweets with the #RedSox hashtag will be filtered in to our system, and the best questions will be selected and forwarded to the guest of the show.
The debut episode will feature Mike Hazen, the Red Sox Director of Player Development. Hazen spent five seasons with the Cleveland Indians as Assistant Director of Player Development beginning September 2003. Previously, he coordinated and oversaw Cleveland's Major League advance scouting in 2001 and 2002 and spent the 2003 season as the Indians' Assistant Director of Professional Scouting.
In my personal opinion, Nick Swisher was selected to the All Star team over Kevin Youkilis in the Final Vote because the Yankees do, in fact, have a stronger presence on Twitter, and Facebook. Swisher is having a season that is more than worthy of being selected to the All Star team, but Youkilis was a no-brainer of the five finalists.
Hopefully this webcast is a step in the right direction to help build the Red Sox' presence on social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
I hope you all tune in next Wednesday the 18th, and be sure to leave post questions that you may have for Mike Hazen!
