Are you serious, RSN? by Jared Carrabis
More than half of Sox fans don't think Boston will see October

For the record, the question was, "Will the Red Sox make the playoffs?"

What the heck is wrong with this picture? Did I accidentally log on to the site of the Rays' or Yankees' news outlets?

Since when did 5.5 games back become such an overwhelming deficit when there are still 73 games left to play? I mean, really. Have we learned nothing from this year alone?

The Red Sox were 8.5 back on May 23. On June 18, they were a game back of first place, and it only took them 24 games to get there. That's less than a month. The Red Sox still have half of this month, and two whole months after that to gain ground and overtake both the Yankees and the Rays, who let me remind you, have not had anywhere near the same injury problems that the Red Sox have.

The Red Sox were hit with the most injuries in all of baseball, and they're still only 5.5 back of the team with the best record in baseball.

Just wait 'til Pedey gets back and sees that poll. The 'No' voters are gonna be in for it.

The Red Sox were ten games out in mid-August in 2004, and finished within two games of the Yankees. Our deficit is half of what it was then, with a whole extra month's worth of games to close the gap.

Once Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Josh Beckett return, it'll be like the Red Sox swung a huge blockbuster deal that swayed the balance of power within the division. You watch.

Credit Theo Epstein for not only compiling a team that is talented, but a team that wants to win. You've got Dustin Pedroia out there taking ground balls from his knees and taking batting practice while kneeling on a fold-up chair. Are you kidding me?

Mike Cameron is out there playing hurt. JD Drew has played through injuries. Let me repeat that: JD Drew is playing through injuries!

The Red Sox are first in the majors in runs (483), slugging percentage (.467), doubles, (211), RBI, (464), and total bases (1,448). The Sox are second in the majors in home runs (120), and on-base percentage (.350), and rank third in the majors in hits (851), and team batting average (.275).

This team will make the playoffs. You can take that to the bank. Let's not ever have to have this talk again. Apology accepted from those who voted "No."

What do you think of the Boston.com poll results?
Screw that poll! They're making the playoffs!
Great speech and all, but I think you're overreacting. They won't make the playoffs.
I need to see what the DL squad does when they come back before I can judge.
