How awesome is Dustin Pedroia? by Jared Carrabis

How often is one of the best players on your team, if not
the best, one of the coolest players your team? Answer: not often.
How would you like to be a Yankees fan, where you have a total clown like Alex Rodriguez to "look forward to" for the postgame interviews? Every single one is the same. Rodriguez stresses, "team, team, team," while I say, "liar, liar, liar."
Or even better, how about the biggest phony of them all: Mark Teixeira. I would rather watch grass being watered, than listen to Teixeira the big phony speak after a game.
With Pedroia, not only do you get a great player, but you get someone who speaks his mind with the utmost honesty. If you don't like it, then that's your fault for asking a question, or should I say, provoking the answer you knew you would get.
This video below is a complete gem that went under the radar. While watching the NESN postgame interviews following Pedey's walk-off on Saturday, they only showed the beginning of this video:
While that part was pretty funny, they completely left out the best part. (Skip to the 3 minute mark)
Now do you
ever think you would hear someone like Derek Jeter, A-Rod or Teixeira say something completely awesome like that? No way! You know that's what they're
thinking, but they'll never actually say it.
The thing is, Pedroia was always like that. Here's a quote from Pedroia's book, which if you haven't read it yet, do yourself a favor and grab one
HERE!
"From then on, I made it perfectly clear that whoever was going to crush me was going to get crushed, too. And I turned all that sh-t people were throwing at me into motivation. I was going to prove everybody wrong. And if they didn't like me, then f--k them. I am who I am."
What gets Pedroia so fired up is that he can see things that doubters clearly can not see. For example, this past winter, everyone was writing off the capabilities of the Red Sox' offense, and that they "
needed" Adrian Gonzalez, or else this team was a third place club, for sure.
Well, here we are on June 21, and the Red Sox are second in the majors in home runs (93), second in the majors in OBP (.353), first in the majors in slugging percentage (.468), first in the majors in hits (689), first in the majors in doubles (174), first in the majors in RBI (373), first in the majors in total bases (1,158), and one point shy of having the highest batting average in all of baseball (.278).
As you can see, Pedroia has plenty reason to say, "I told you so."
