Payday For Pedey by Jared Carrabis
Pedroia rewarded with six-year extension
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com has reported that the Boston Red Sox have officially signed second baseman Dustin Pedroia to a six-year extension worth what is said to be around $40.5 million. The deal includes a buyout for two years of free agency and it also includes a club option for the 2015 season.
The reward in the form of dollar signs has been confirmed by both
Boston.com and
ESPN.com This is a deal that has been in the works between both sides since mid-August and now that both sides are happy, so is Red Sox Nation.
The eventful offseason continues for Pedroia as we are all sure that he had plenty to be thankful for this past Thursday and with an early Christmas bonus, the rest of the Pedroia family should expect an upgrade in their gifts from Dustin and Kelli this holiday season.
Just to recap what he has been able to do just in two Major League seasons alone, how about Rookie of the Year, a World Series title, a 2008 All Star selection, a Gold Glove, a Silver Slugger, runner-up for a batting title, the American League Most Valuable Player award and a big fat contract extension worth just over $40 million.
In 2004 the Red Sox didn’t get a first-round draft pick due to their signing of one of the top closers in the game over the winter, Keith Foulke. Instead they got stuck with the 65th pick in the second round. It just so happens that the pick they received would be used to select the shortstop from Arizona State, Dustin Pedroia. Not bad for the 65th overall draft pick in the second round, eh?
