Deadline dilemma by Jared Carrabis
Trade for A's Rich Harden falls through after Red Sox view his medical records

Well, you had to figure that something like this was going to happen.

The Red Sox have been interested in right-hander Rich Harden in year's past, but last night it seemed that Theo Epstein was on the cusp of reeling in the A's hurler.

It was initially reported by ESPN's Jayson Stark that, "Looks as if #Athletics & #RedSox closing in on a deal for Rich Harden tonight," but made a point to stress that the deal was not yet "done."

It wasn't long after that that we learned that former top Red Sox prospect Lars Anderson was going to be included in a potential deal. There were multiple reports surfacing that Anderson had been lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning down in Pawtucket, followed by confirmation tweets that he would be included in a deal for Harden.

Later that night, many were surprised when news broke that the deal was off. The reason? Harden's medical records scared the Red Sox away. READ MORE!

Ubaldon't by Jared Carrabis
Red Sox are "aggressively pursuing" Ubaldo Jimenez, but at what cost?

It's the most wonderful time of the year. (I hope you read that and sang it in your head.)

We're now just two days away from the infamous trade deadline, and the biggest rumor that has compelled me to write about it (since I hate rumors, being that 98% of them never come to fruition) is that the Red Sox are aggressively pursuing right-handed start of the Colorado Rockies, Ubaldo Jimenez, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.

Let me just lay down some facts before I get into my opinion on the situation. I am not a prospect hoarder. I don't obsess or overvalue the Red Sox top prospects. I was 100% all in favor of pulling the trigger on the Adrian Gonzalez trade, and didn't shed one tear when letting go of Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes.

Although a significant prospect package, I understood that the return was far more significant in helping the Red Sox win in 2011 and in the future than w...READ MORE!

Reddickulous by Jared Carrabis
Josh Reddick making it impossible to justify playing JD Drew over him, or trading for outfielder

If you ever meet Josh Reddick, which I have, his body type doesn't quite fit the bill of what baseball fans growing up in the Steroid Era were accustomed to seeing.

He's a slenderly built country boy with candid opinions and a straightforward attitude. Nothing about him screams, "I'm about to torch your starting pitcher all day long", but he does. A southern gentleman off the field, once you put Reddick in between the two white lines with grass all around, he becomes a destroyer of all white circular objects with red stitches.

Reddick followed up his career best 3-hit night on Tuesday with a 2-for-3 performance on Wednesday to boost his average up to .378. Among all rookies in the MLB with at least 90 plate appearances, Reddick's .378 batting average trumps them all. Since May 26, Reddick's 18 RBIs are third among American League rookies, and that's between two sti...READ MORE!

Gettin' Muddy with it by Jared Carrabis
Dustin Pedroia, the smallest among an offensive juggernaut, still carrying the biggest punch

After dropping a 15-spot on the Orioles last night in Baltimore, the Red Sox offense improved their MLB-leading average to .276, to go along with their MLB-leading OBP (.352), slugging percentage (.455), runs (513), RBI (495), doubles (201), extra-base hits (338), and walks (368).

Needless to say, the Red Sox' offense is uncontested as being the best in baseball. When tied at 7 in the eighth inning last night, Boston sent twelve batters to the plate, scoring a grand total of eight runs. It was the nineteenth time that the Red Sox have batted around this season, which - you guessed it - is the most in the majors.

In the midst of all this offensive production, Dustin Pedroia has been a mark of consistency. The newly dubbed "Muddy Chicken" by teammate Josh Beckett is riding a 16-game hitting streak, which is the longest such streak in the America...READ MORE!

McCourting Andre Ethier to Boston? by Jared Carrabis
Fed up with Dodgers embarrassing situation, Andre Ethier reportedly interested in Red Sox

Dodgers fans leave before the games are over, the Dodgers' money leaves before it can be paid to their players, and now a certain Dodgers player wants to leave LA before the season is over.

I'm sensing a trend here.

Last September, the Dodgers' Andre Ethier told friends that he would welcome a trade to the Red Sox. Nothing ever came of the reports over the winter, as the Red Sox pursued the likes of Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford instead, as JD Drew was still under contract for an unmovable $14 million.

Ethier, who turned 29 at the beginning of the season, is reportedly asking out of LA once again, and his wishes remain that he would like to come to Boston to play alongside his friend and workout buddy, Dustin Pedroia.

Six pack of whoop-ass by Jared Carrabis
Red Sox crush six homers, three consecutive, reclaim first place in win over Orioles

The Home Run Derby got underway early this year, as six Red Sox sluggers left the yard in the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

It all began with a monster shot by Dustin Pedroia of the three-run variety to give Boston a 3-2 lead in the early going. In fact, none of the homers hit by Boston were cheap homers. I like to call those "Mo Shots" as Mo Vaughn never hit a cheap home run in his life.

In order, Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz, Josh Reddick and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, with the latter three being consecutive, all went deep in Thursday night's win.

The Sox's six homers were the most since they launched six bombs against the O's on September 8, 2009. The three consecutive home runs marked the first time since David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre and JD Drew accomplished the feat against the Rangers in Texas on August 13, 2010.

As far as the other three Sox that went deep tonight, they accounted for the top three hitters in Boston's lineup. It wa...READ MORE!

Old McDonald had a gun by Jared Carrabis
Darnell McDonald's cannon, Jason Varitek's block, bails out Jonathan Papelbon in Red Sox win

I know it's been a while since the last blog post; forgive me. There was no WiFi in the hotel we stayed at in Houston, so I guess I'll save those stories for my next book.

Anyway, Tuesday night's showdown between the Red Sox and Blue Jays left us with plenty to discuss. First, here's what the box score won't show: Jon Lester was lifted from the game after tossing four no-hit innings with what he described as a sore lat muscle. The lat muscle is the muscle in your back that is right underneath your shoulder blade.

Lester said that it wasn't one particular pitch that he injured his left lat muscle on, but rather the entire fourth inning that aggravated it. All indications are that Lester will likely end up on the disabled list, which isn't the end of the world given that the All Star break is just days away. Should Lester hit the shelf, he'll be eligible to return just six days after the break.

If you missed Monday's game, Kevin Youkilis took a fastball off his back, just belo...READ MORE!
